Health Insurance - for Medical Services

Everyone who works or is registered in the Netherlands is obliged to be insured in a Dutch insurance company. This is regardless of whether you intend to stay in the Netherlands for 2 months or 10 years. As the name implies, the health insurance is related to the medical costs, that is, the costs of physicians, medications etc. The insurance which is obligatory is the so-called basic one - BASIS. Various insurance companies may require different amounts for such an insurance but the average monthly fee for 2018 is around EUR 95-105. It is often possible to find offers for less but remember that the lower the monthly prices, the higher the amount of your own risk.

What is the own risk?
It is an amount between EUR 385 and 885 (in 2018) which is written on the insurance policy. It determines how much we will have to pay additionally if we use medical services. A visit to a general medical practitioner is always covered by the insurance company but a visit to a medical specialist is covered only when you have 'used up' your own risk, that is, after you have paid your medical assistance bills up to the amount of your own risk.

Example 1: If you have a basic insurance with your own risk amounting to EUR 385 for 2018 and you get a bill for a surgery, e.g. an arm fracture and medications in the amount of EUR 1000, then you have to cover EUR 385 of this amount and the insurance company will cover the remaining costs which are beyond the amount of the own risk.

Example 2: If you have a basic insurance with your own risk amounting to EUR 885 for 2018 and you get a bill for a surgery, e.g. an arm fracture and medications in the amount of EUR 1000, then you have to cover EUR 885 of this amount and the insurance company will cover the remaining costs which are beyond the amount of the own risk.

If you decide to choose a higher amount of the own risk, the monthly discunt for the insurance is even up to EUR 20!  For the client, it means the following: the less you pay, the more you risk (you, not the insurance company). The basic insurance with the highest own risk are then offered from as low as about EUR 72 per month.

Additional insurance options, i.e. a physiotherapeutic option, a dental option, an orthodontic option, an option for eyeglasses or lenses, a family planning option etc. are also available. You have a lot to choose from but you need to choose reasonably. Do not choose additional options if you only 'assume' that the insurer will cover anything. Read the insurance terms carefully if you consider the additional options. Remember also that there are few insurers who allow you to choose additional options if you are not registered in the Netherlands. If you have any questions, please contact us.

If you have the health insurance, you can check if you are entitled to the insurance subsidy from the state - please read the information provided on our website in the part about the insurance subsidy (zorgtoeslag).

Car Insurance

Every car with the Dutch number plate must be insured in the Netherlands. There are many insurance companies and therefore it is necessary to compare the offers well. We offer you our assistance not only in submitting an application for the car insurance but also in selecting the best insurance offer.

Warning! The cars which have the Dutch number plates are automatically checked by RDW and, if your car is not insured, we advise you to get such an insurance as fast as possible to avoid high penalties which you may face for not having the insurance!

Funeral Insurance

The death of a person close to us is one of the very sorrowful moments in life. Unfortunately, the fact is that many people working and living in the Netherlands do not know that, at the moment of our death, the persons who will lose us will not get any money to arrange a funeral or to transport the remains to the country of our origin. This means that when we die we leave the persons close to us not only in sorrow but also with a problem of having to finance all this. To prevent such situations, in the Netherland you can arrange a funeral insurance or death insurance.

The amount of such insurance depends on many factors and therefore, if you are interested in it, please contact us.

House/Apartment Insurance

If you own a house in the Netherlands for which you have taken a mortgage loan, the basic insurance required by the bank is the insurance of the building (the so-called "woonhuisverzekering"). Unfortunately, things kept in such a building are not insured then. There is, however, another insurance available which covers just the things kept in the house / the apartment (the so-called inboedelverzekering). Such insurance covers damages to object caused by fire, flood, burglary or theft. Such insurance is also possible for things kept in a rented apartment / house as long as you are registered there.

The price of such insurance depends on many factors and therefore, if you are interested in it, please contact us.

Civil Liability Insurance

The Netherlands is a country where you can be insured almost against everything, including the civil liability.

What kind of insurance is this?
This is an insurance which covers damages unintentionally caused by you to third (other) persons. Examples? Situations in which your bicycle would fall over and scratch someone's car, your child would kick a ball and break your neighbours' window, you would be shopping and knock against a glass shelf which would fall down and break etc. Such insurances are very cheap and start from as low as around EUR 3 per month, but they protect us from repair or replacement costs which are sometimes very high.

The price of such insurance depends on many factors and therefore, if you are interested in it, please contact us.
